It could be that there is a sun but it's not visible. It's like a cave world. The sun heats the planet and that heat transfers to the cave system which generates lava. The bedrock could have a very high melting point but can still transfer heat.

So I’m curious. You said the builders terraformed the NETHER to create these forest biomes, but you never explained how the builders actually did that. I would say they created Nether Portals in the ocean that continuously poured ocean water into the NETHER to create these WARPED biomes. The constant flush of water would not have deteriorated enough if water was constantly flushed into the NETHER from the OVERWORLD OCEANS. Hence water would of gotten through & stuck around. I feel like that alone is worth a GAME THEORY or it’s at least worth looking into since you haven’t touched on that subject. P.S. Maybe thats why there are lave falls instead of water falls from the failed attempt from the builders.

Here is a theory for you could the Illagers have created Steve? He dose appear out of no where with no memory except the inherit memory to build and there is evidence that the Illagers worship the original builders and are trying to immolate them, if not recreate them. So could they have succeeded? (the colored wool is the same as the zombies the remnants of the builder cavitation. There is more i could say but I don't what this comment to be too long)

I would have liked some theories included about the glowstone, as it is a self sustaining energy source that can be used to grow crops underground where there is no sunlight, would it not be a large contributor to the sustainability of life in the nether?

Well.. some Fungi can get energy chemosythesis too, that would let a constant supply of energy into the ecosystem, before animals and plants made their way on to land fungi that were chemosythesizers were the only ones that existed on land. Also there is a similar ecosystem on earth that could be similar to the nether which would be life near underwater volcanoes. That ecosystem relies on hydrothermal bacteria.

I saw a lot of comments of people screaming at Mat for not mentioning geothermal energy. Well get this. Geothermal energy, at least as I know, cant be used to sustain life. Well it can help sustain fancy life because it is used mostly in making electricity but I dont think geothermal energy is useful to plants other than being a much more eco friendly source of electrical energy than burning fossil fuels. Plants use solar energy to perform photosynthesis and I think that is the only form of energy they use. Nether only has fungi and fungi perforns decomposition to get energy. It dosent use geothermal energy. that is why without dumb travellers going to the nether, it wont have enough energy to sustain life because as I watch this kind of vids and I do research, I think it's safe to say that a place cant sustain life without an outside source of energy. Nether has an outside source. The inhabitants just have to pray that someone will go to their dimension so that they could murder them for an energy source. Correct me if im wrong about this but please dont scream at Mat for not talking about geothermal energy. Lava is molten rocks that give heat. And plants and fungi dont use heat energy to make more energy. Plants use solar energy and fungi sucks the energy from dead things. But hey, that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY! Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Why are people saying that soals are the energy of the nether when you have lava and lots of heat and lava has light not just heat remember the sun isn't just the only source of energy on earth its you also have the heat of the earth itself and that's how deep sea organisms get there nutrients but they also take energy that is literally dropped down there by animals dieing from up above so shure they can leach of of soals but also the lavas heat

I have a theory... If Minecraft is like the real world witch is what you have said in one of your past episodes then what about heaven hell and Earth. So you know Minecraft Earth and then there's another which is basically hell it's a place with trapped tortured souls and a lot of monsters so basically the nether is hell. Well if our ancestors in Minecraft are enderman then what if they are angels, and there are a lot of enderman in the ender world so what if that's heaven. Think about it it's basically three realms or dimensions that you have to take portals to in ghasts are basically ghosts that are always crying so they're being tortured.

Hey game theory, why is Steve so powerful? You said that the powerful civilization that existed long ago, built the wither to cure death but it backfired, forcing them to go to the end. You also said that the drowned were gods, yet, I can defeat them easily, I can also defeat the wither, and the Ender dragon by myself. Edit: Nevermind. I probably figured it out because just thought of an amazing twist. What if this ties into minecraft story mode? You said that the command block can't be destroyed by the wither. Maybe the ancient civilization created it. Furthermore, maybe they might be the old builders. As far as I know about the old builders, they created a system where you respawn after you die, and they created a portal network that takes you to many worlds. The world you spawned in could've belonged to the old builders before they accidentally created a monster that nearly destroyed the whole world while they were still figuring out the cure for death. When you respawn in episode 8 of minecraft story mode, it is obvious that they eventually figured out the cure for death. Perhaps Steve is an old builder that was sent to fix the problem they created, and that's why he respawns when he dies, and that's why he's so powerful. Also, the Ender dragon has 8 end crystals that surround it when Steve arrives to defeat it. Also, you only need 4 Ender crystals to resurrect it, and the same number surrounded the Ender dragon when the Order of the Stone went to defeat it.

Thubnail: "soul trap" To capture a soul, there must be at least one empty soul gem in the inventory that is large enough to hold that soul. Either cast the Soul Trap spell on the target or attack it with a weapon enchanted with Soul Trap, then slay it before the duration of the effect runs out. If done correctly, the soul will be trapped in the first soul gem of sufficient size available in the inventory. If a soul gem of the exact size is unavailable, the soul will be trapped in a larger gem, if present, but if there are no soul gems large enough to hold the soul, then the soul will not be captured. A soul gem containing a less than optimal soul can be dropped, which will empty it (gems filled to capacity will not be emptied if dropped).

This is my theory about how steve (the player) was created. Steve was created by the evoker and illagers because they have the type of wool that steve has on him, and they can control life and death so they were trying to create an intelligent species but they kept making zombies that's why zombies have the same clothes as us so they finally created the player. The reason why the player can respawn is that the player has a stronger totem of undying that can't be destroyed. Idk how he has it on him but he does. (I did see the video that Wifies created about this, I just wanted to make a new one similar theory)
